Plowbuster

Our Crowd-Favorite Pinot Noir from Carabella Vineyard

From the Colorado Rockies to the Oregon Valleys, winemaker/geologist Mike Hallock spent several years searching for the perfect place to raise his grapes. His search paid off well and landed him in the heart of the Willamette Valley, one of the most prestigious areas for pinot production. Mike continues to build and solidify the growth of Carabella Vineyard and the quality of the fruit it produces. He has an unlimited passion to deliver his best work for showcasing the Carabella and Plowbuster labels that we present to you.

After thousands of years of weather-induced erosion to Oregon’s basalt soils, large rounded boulders are formed. This boulder-strewn landscape proves to be treacherous and unyielding to our vineyard harvesting equipment. Many parts and pieces of our handy machinery have succumbed to the boulders’ violent embrace, thus our Plowbuster label was born. The boulder pictured is a James Dowlen hand-painted rendition of the real rock that resides at the top of our vineyard.

2023 Plowbuster Pinot Noir

A very complex rendition of Willamette Valley pinot noir, with juicy finishing acidity, balanced tannins and a hint of oak. Red berry and spice on the nose, with long tannins on the finish. The multiple clones grown in the volcanic soils of the Chehalem Mountains and Eola Hills vineyards bring pleasing complexity.
The grapes were destemmed to small fermenters and punched down by hand. Most fermenters were pressed at dryness. No racking was necessary, with the wine aging sur lie and aged in French oak for 10 months.

We are dedicated to producing the best quality of pinot noir, and the volcanic soils of the Chehalem Mountains AVA helps us achieve this goal. Our operation is certified LIVE sustainable, the vines are hand-picked, and the nutrient-rich, dry-farmed soils are key. We provide for the land, so that the land may in-turn provide to us. Every last drop of our pinot is instilled with endless love and care.
